WHAT VINCENT REALLY NEEDS IS A VACATION FROM HIS OWN HEAD.
Yeeeah... Yuri is aware that Vin is just a pretty duck on top of a deep, deep lake or however that saying goes. He knows that Vincent’s mind is ALWAYS working, sometimes in ways he can’t fathom and frankly--he just needs to stop. Yuri has serious doubts that Vincent knows how to exist without scheming something. Keywords for Yuri are ‘100 years ago’--he knows Vincent is trying to keep it under wraps, but of course he was in Onyx while everyone was was Sabliering around so the details are lost on him. But Yuri will play chess with him forever even though he isn’t crazy about it because anything that makes Vincent think about something other than WHATEVER he is normally thinking about is A+++. He doesn’t have any concrete ideas like “Vincent needs his brother to love him” or “Vincent needs to forgive himself.” He also knows Vincent does not have his morality, so he knows whatever he HAS done is much, much bigger than killing a handful of people, and more impactful for Vincent. He thunks Vincent needs more than he would ever say--like himself.
And before he didn’t think he had anything to give Vincent, but... He really does want to provide for him. They’ve both created this space where its okay to sort of flip the feelings switch, and now that they have that covered its time to start pulling out the wiring.. He KNOWS Vincent doesn’t want that. But he thinks he needs it. In a lot of ways Vincent isn’t a real person--faking the sex, not having a favorite food... There’s a lot of dissembling going on, and Yuri doesn’t think Vincent knows about some of it (most of it??)
As for what Vincent WANTS... he honestly isn’t sure. He knows Vincent doesn’t want to be merely happy with his brother, otherwise he wouldn’t be so schemey, but he KNOWS Vincent wants... something. He is probably going to play the what do you want game with him like he did with Estelle. It is hilarious he’s picking up Vincent’s habits, because now that his own shit is under control he can pay more attention...
What does Vincent think about this new... chapter... of their relationship... Does he know they’re married? Are there things happening that he’s not aware of? Is he picking up any of YURI’S habits?
Vincent is super okay with this stage and is well aware that they are married. It's really hard to put it into words without doing major wordvom, but they are both stable along with the whole situation which suits Vincent's needs perfectly. Really, he can quantify and plan for anything that comes along with Yuri, so he is more relaxed with however that relationship decides to go. He can control where it is going to go which is the biggest part of it. For his side, Vincent knows that they are sort of . . . Stuck with each other! He came to terms with this eons ago, but he is really coming to understand all the ramifications of it. So, he is just rolling with the punches, processing and predicting where he can. Really, Vincent is much more chill in general after that memory.
Anything that he's unaware of . . . Not really! When the whole love bit snuck up on him, Vincent was a little undone by it, but he's managed to push it out of the way. At this point, it's probably buried under about fifteen feet of concrete where it belongs, and he is perfectly content with that set-up. God, I really cannot think of anything that he isn't aware of . . . As for habits, I don't think he's really going to pick any of Yuri's up. It's hard, because I can't even think of any that Yuri does on a regular basis nor would Vincent unconsciously imitate Yuri. Vincent is very conscious of his decorum and manner of behavior, actutely so, so it's hard for him to put a new card in a full deck. He has spotted Yuri picking up his own which just makes him laugh, but he doesn't think much of it.
A. He was dragged into the Abyss without fulfilling his plan (not reccomended to go home...) B. He DIED without fulfilling his plan (and can't go home) C. He SUCCEEDED in his plan and unexisted himself. And he stillwound up in Aather.
Give me Vincent's feelings on these things, and maybe also contingency plans.
DON'T MAKE ME RUN CONTINGENCY PLANS!!!! Do you know that I keep a scratch pad by my computer, so I can run all the schemes and plans that Vincent does for long-term goals? Like, seriously, it takes a lot of brainwork, missy. THAT SAID!!!
a. He is super okay with being in Aather, because Will of Abyss would have had a goddamn field day with him. Everyone else would say that the Abyss sucks, Vincent would know the true depths of Hell with that girl at the helm. So, he would be like . . . I am so happy to be in Aather where things could not go half as poorly!! . . . Except they could, but if he has a pay-out, then who cares, really.
b. He would shake his head at this ending. Like, really now, self? This is all you could manage? Then, he would be all set to roll in Aather, since it clearly was not going to work out. —See, you think that he isn't planning for these kinds of outcomes already. He is. There's a reason why he's not sitting tight in Aather to see if Option C eventually happened, because it might not have and he is on top of that!! Vincent is a real-go-getter when he feels like it.
c. This is trickiest . . . It runs down a lot of different possibilities that would all have to be accounted for. Like, let me see if I can cover some:
CAST REGISTRY COMPLETE > They go home! With memories of Aather! > ... Fail. CAST REGISTRY COMPLETE > They stay in Aather! > Everyone mentions Vincent. > ... Fail. CAST REGISTRY COMPLETE > Abyss somehow supersedes Aather! > No Vincent, heeey.
So, it gets really fuck-all complicated when you get into the details which are where it is at for Vincent! Watch how Vincent is not suicidal, not reckless, or anything at all in canon. He's not going to kill himself and leave Gilbert with that mess, because he couldn't cope. No, he is going to take care of every small detail to give his brother the happiest life that he could which is why Vincent was running into a wall previously. He knew he had a motive that was dedicated to Gilbert which gave him the reason to do anything at all in his memories as an adult . . . Even when he was a child! Like, come on, he could have easily have said PEACE OUT when he showed up half-dead at Nightray's doorstep, but he was dedicated enough to keep alive and to keep living for this goal. So, he was like GOD What was it that I was after that could have excused my living to this point now? And then he got that memory and is like Oh. That makes perfect sense. :') And he is working towards it in Aather which ought to cover for most eventualities. Like I said, that plan is still sort of slow to mobilize, because Vincent has to work out a few kinks to make it feasible.
